REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team split last week's four Golden Valley Conference games, losing a doubleheader to Feather River College and sweeping College of the Redwoods.
The Knights fell to the first-place Golden Eagles 8-0 in five innings across both games on Friday before beating the Corsairs 10-5 and 10-0 on Saturday.
Shasta (17-13, 8-8 GVC) made up for the shutouts with a strong offensive performance, clobbering four home runs on the way to scoring double-digit runs in back-to-back games for the second time this season.
Feather River 8-8, Shasta 0-0
The Knights collected only eight hits in the two games while being shutout in a doubleheader for the first time this year. Reilly Rupert surrendered five runs on five hits in two innings to take the loss in the circle in the opener. Alison Lee, Erica Parent and Haylee Sobrero – the Knights' top third of the lineup – accounted for all three Shasta hits.
In the nightcap, Lee, Paige Mitchell, Sobrero, Destinee Baird and Lindsey Beck each had a hit. Rupert allowed three runs on four hits in 0.2 innings to take the loss. Lee and Maddie Luntey each pitched in relief.
Shasta 10-10, Redwoods 5-0
The Knights exploded for 12 hits in the opener, scoring at least one run in all seven innings. Tara George hit a solo homer and Baird clobbered a three-run home run. Lee was 4 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs, Baird was 2 for 5 with a double, five RBIs and a run, Sobrero scored twice and had a stolen base. Rupert struck out a season-best 12 batters, walked two, and gave up five runs on nine hits in a complete game win.
Shasta outhit Redwoods 12-3 in the second game with Lee picking up a complete-game shutout victory. Lee struck out three and walked one. Sobrero was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs. Rupert was 1 for 2 with a three-run home run, Marissa Hopkins was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Lee was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, and Beck was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run.
