SHASTA MEN FINISH 14-13 ON SEASON

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team cruised to a 74-52 win over Lassen in the final game of the regular season a few days following a tough five-point home loss to College of the Redwoods, which would have decided the Golden Valley Conference title.

The Knights did not make the California Community College Athletic Association Championship tournament and finished the season 14-13 overall and 7-3 in GVC play, which was third place.

The Knights led 39-31 at half but managed only 21 points in the second half and were outscored by 13. Shasta shot 4 of 18 from 3-point range in the game, made 10 of 12 attempts from the free throw line but lost the turnover battle 16-9. Josiah Palumbo's 17 points and eight rebounds were both team-highs while Derek Gorden scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds. Simmer Singh pitched in with 12 points and Konnor Gerig added eight points.

The stats for Shasta's 74-52 were not entered into the system.

Gorden led Shasta in scoring as the only Knight to average in double-digits with 16.4 points per game and 393 total points. Samer Khalil followed with 9.7 points per game, Singh averaged 9.4 points and Palumbo scored 9.0 points per game.

Gorden set team-high's in field goals made (138), 3-pointers made (77), 3-point field goal percentage (41 percent), free throw percentage (40 of 43, 93 percent), rebounds (146), rebounds per game (6.1), and blocks (19). He was second in steals (33) behind Singh (34). His 77 made 3s ranked 13th in the state.

Khalil paced Shasta in assists with 72 and a 3.1 per game rate.

As a team, Shasta finished 13th in opponents 3-point field goal percentage (30.7 percent), 16th in free throw percentage (73.2), 18th in the state in turnovers per game (12), and 18th in points per game allowed (68.6).
