KNIGHTS FALL IN CHASE FOR GVC LEAD
Shasta College snaps three game winning streak
REDDING, Calif. – The Knights pursuit to take control of the Golden Valley Conference fell just short.
Shasta College's women's soccer team split in its two matches last week, beating College of the Siskiyous 4-1 for its third straight win, but fell to first-place Lake Tahoe 5-0 in a battle for the top spot in the conference.
Four different Knights scored in the win over the Eagles, who held a 1-0 advantage with a goal in the 19th minute. But Sierra Brenner set up Haley Moebes and Kirstin Adams assisted Maite Silva-Bradley for first-half goals, Rylie Pinnell scored an unassisted goal in the 54th minute, and Shasta (8-4, 3-2 GVC) slammed the door with a Nayomi Torculas goal in the 83rd minute for the victory.
Paige Reed and Adams each had two saves while splitting time as the Shasta goalkeepers.
Against Lake Tahoe (10-2-3, 6-0 GVC), Shasta trailed 2-0 at half and was shutout for only the second time this season. Reed had eight saves and allowed two goals while Pinnell made six saves and allowed three goals.
Pinnell leads the team in points (20) and goals (9), one ahead in each category of Moebes (19 points, 8 goals).
